Tooele City staff warns applicants about phishing attempts targeting planning applications

At the start of its July 8 meeting, Chairman Hamilton read a public notice warning residents about fraudulent phishing requests that use information from public notices about planning applications.
"Tooele City collects fees only at the time of application submittal. Tooele City will never ask for funds to be sent over wire transfers," the chairman said, adding that legitimate city emails use the official city domain (tooelecity.gov) and that anyone who receives a request for additional fees via a non-city email should contact the Tooele City Community Development Department immediately.
The notice was presented as an advisory to applicants and other members of the public and was read before the commission took up its agenda items.
