Grant County adopts Fiscal Year 2027 final budget; commissioners press on legal fees

Chair (S1) announced the motion to approve the final budget (version 2), which was seconded by Commissioner (S7). Finance staff (S5) told the board the legal-services line was budgeted at $150,000 for the coming year and that last year the county spent $79,747.93. Staff explained that any unspent funds return to the county’s general fund rather than being rolled over for the same line item.
Several commissioners sought transparency around legal invoices and asked whether summaries or itemized invoices could be provided; finance staff and County staff (S4) said invoices can be compiled on request and that the final budget materials would be posted online after submission to the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA).
Commissioner (S8) framed the questions as part of the board’s stewardship of public funds and asked for clear, public-facing materials so constituents can see where money is allocated. County staff said they would provide a budget snapshot and post the adopted final budget online once DFA filing is complete.
The motion to adopt Resolution R-26-24 carried by voice vote. The board did not change the attorney-fees allocation during this meeting.
