Administrator Jenkins and Director Ballas told trustees the lab produced roughly $35,000 in the recent quarter compared with a budgeted target of about $22,000, driven by onboarding municipalities and services. Ballas noted the lab reached a workload cap and said continued revenue could justify adding staff to expand capacity.
Ballas also reported that the lab "passed" its water audit on Monday and that the village is good for another two years for water compliance; the wastewater audit will be more detailed and is scheduled for the following year. Officials raised the possibility of working with local colleges for interns but noted scheduling and reliability challenges for critical weekday lab operations.
Board members recommended continuing to monitor revenue and operational capacity and exploring sustainable staffing approaches if demand persists.
