Fredonia board approves Saint John and splash‑zone signs and adopts bulk‑waste policy

The Village of Fredonia Board of Trustees voted July 17 to approve a sign permit for Saint John Lutheran and a separate 10-foot splash-zone sign, and adopted a new bulk-waste dumpster policy that the village expects to operate on limited days each year.

Administrator Jenkins told the board the Saint John Lutheran sign is in public institutional zoning and that the planning commission recommended approval; trustees moved and approved the permit without extended discussion. Jenkins said the splash-zone sign will be large and colorful, match splash‑pad features and village branding, include the PWSP logo and list sponsors; the board approved that permit as well so the village can coordinate sign installation with final construction of the splash pad.

Director Ballas presented the proposed bulk-waste dumpster policy, describing a plan for three days in spring and three days in fall at the wastewater plant, with gates, on-site cameras and village staff able to ban misuse. The policy calls for residents to show village ID or proof of residency (for example a driver’s license or water bill) and for staff to schedule events to avoid overlap with other community activities. Trustees discussed staffing and the possibility of scheduling the spring event later in June to ensure summer help is available; the policy was adopted.

Board members expressed support for the signage as community-recognition and fundraising tools, and noted the bulk-waste policy is intended to control costs and discourage nonresident use of the dumpsters. Jenkins and Ballas said staff will finalize dates, signage details and operational protocols and bring any administrative clarifications to the board as needed.
