Lebanon board appoints student representatives and details student-belonging committee work

The board approved three student board representatives recommended by staff after interviewing eight candidates. Superintendent staff identified the recommended students by name: "Braden Pruitt, Chloe Regalado, and Scarlett French." Scarlett French attended the meeting; the student representatives will officially begin duties in September.
Board members discussed ways to keep additional applicants engaged, such as inviting students to present on projects, scheduling school visits, or incorporating student reports into meetings. A member suggested those approaches would boost community engagement and tie into the board’s priorities.
The Student Belonging Committee reported initial work and priorities. The committee — originating from state legislation and organized locally as a student-belonging committee — had 13–15 participants per meeting and prioritized improving supports for students with disabilities, strengthening student mental-health resources, building more inclusive school climates, increasing engagement opportunities for underrepresented students, and expanding leadership opportunities. The committee plans student focus groups and fall professional development for staff, and will meet again starting Sept. 24.
The board welcomed the student representatives and directed staff to develop ways to keep a broader group of applicants involved in district activities.
