Montezuma County commissioners on July 7 said they will move forward with ballot language for a proposed lodgers tax initiative and took steps to prepare for an interim administration after their county administrator indicated he will take a short sabbatical.
The county attorney briefed commissioners that the certificate deadline is 100 days before the election and noted the board must act before July 23 to certify intent; he said he will place the ballot‑measure resolution and a previously discussed term‑limit measure on next week’s agenda.
On administration, the county administrator reported he expects a possible short‑term return of former administrator Travis Anderson on contract beginning Sept. 7. Commissioners directed the county attorney to draft a resolution describing how administrator duties could be divided among the board during a vacancy and gave the board chair authority to negotiate a contract with Mr. Anderson for interim service, subject to later board approval.
Commissioners said the proposed contract will be brought back for board approval and that staff will prepare a draft resolution for a workshop next week.
