Turner Construction briefs Niskayuna board on elementary renovation timeline, budget estimate

Turner Construction representatives updated the NISKAYUNA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Education on July 7 about the district's capital projects and summer work plan for elementary-school renovations.
Bob Grama, project executive for Turner Construction, summarized progress across the high‑school and elementary projects and noted finishing work in Areas A and B, courtyard retaining-wall foundation work, interior framing in the new addition and punch-list items at the high school gym. He said lock sets that did not meet specifications will be replaced by the end of the month and lawn restoration at Pierrette Pointe is scheduled in mid‑August, weather permitting.
On the finances, Turner reported a remaining referendum balance tied to earlier projects and design estimates for the elementary scope. "The total remaining referendum, that 14,100,000," Grama said on the record, and the team reported an elementary‑scope estimate at about $19.5 million. Grama described contingency planning and a list of alternates the district may pull back on bid day to keep the project awardable if bids exceed estimates.
The team said the elementary work will be staged across two intensive summers (2027 and 2028) to minimize disruption to school operations; some nonintrusive work could extend into early fall. Administration confirmed the district will pursue State Education Department approval and put the work out to bid in winter so contractors can be lined up for June 2027 start dates.
Board members asked about swing‑space, playground impacts and extended school‑year programming; Turner and district staff said they expect to manage logistics and that options exist to accommodate programming during the multiyear effort.
The board thanked Turner staff for the update and noted workforce‑hours tracking and on‑site safety performance during the project.
