The Westport Island Select Board opened two sealed bids for the town's snow-removal contract and voted to table selection while staff and the road commissioner review references and equipment capabilities.
Chair (S1) read the bids. KNA Property Service listed first-year work at $233,841.75, second-year $240,855.75 and third-year $248,070.15. Chair (S1) noted the bidder listed two snowplows, sanders and a skid steer among the equipment. The second bidder, identified in the envelope as Hoebook Brooke Excavating, listed year-one at $254,257.50, year-two $261,885.22 and a three-year total of $785,884.62.
Chair (S1) moved to table the decision to allow time for research and consultation with the road commissioner; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. "It's not simply by highest or lowest bid," Chair (S1) said, adding the board will weigh references, background and equipment before making an award.
Both contractors were thanked for submitting proposals; the board said it would notify bidders after additional review and expects to make a determination within about two to four weeks.
