Westbrook Park staff, students praise summer renovations as morale boost

Westbrook Park Elementary School highlighted a series of facility upgrades at the Upper Darby School District board meeting, saying the changes have refreshed classrooms and boosted student and staff morale.
"Over the summer, new floors were installed at Westbrook Park, which completes years' worth of greatly needed improvements to learning environments for our students and staff," said Mark Comfort, principal of Westbrook Park Elementary. Assistant Principal Cameron Bush added that the district replaced classroom and hallway flooring, installed a new gym floor and upgraded teacher and student desks and chairs.
Students who attended the meeting described strong reactions on the first day back. One student said the new gym floor and matching school colors made the school feel like a fresh start. "It looked amazing," a student said, describing classmates looking around at the improvements.
School leaders said the upgrades also included new ceiling tiles, lighting and HVAC work in parts of the building. Comfort said the district will install new bleachers later in the school year to complete the gym area.
Board members in attendance offered congratulations and noted the visible impact: the board president said the gym looks "really, really great," citing a recent game she attended.
The presentation credited the district facilities team and administration for enabling the work and thanked staff, families and students for accommodating renovations during transitions. The board did not take any formal action at the end of the presentation.
