Two Smith-Green seniors win 11 Scholastic Art & Writing awards; district art show set for May 3

Two Smith-Green Community Schools seniors were spotlighted Tuesday for strong performances in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Staff member (speaker 5) told the board that Addison Reed and Jillian Wright together won 11 awards and that district students earned 22 awards overall, including one writing award. "This year, our students had a goal to earn 20 awards. They actually won 22 awards and even earned 1 writing award," the staff member said.
Staff members also noted that Wright earned three Gold Keys and that her Gold Key pieces will advance to the national adjudication in New York City. The district will display student work at its annual art show on Sunday, May 3, and staff urged board members and community members to attend.
Board members congratulated the students and the art department for their recognition. The board requested that staff provide a list of artwork to be displayed and promised to circulate details about the May 3 show.
The spotlight also included mentions of academic recognition: the two students were reported to be among the district’s top-10 seniors and finalists for scholarships. No formal action was taken; the segment was a ceremonial recognition and announcement.
