District staff confirmed the program started as social-emotional support for upper-elementary newcomers and is expanding to include academic support in reading and mathematics. Board members applauded the initiative as a low-cost way to leverage student talent and provide role models for younger learners.
Hager urged continued attention to facilities and accessibility in older buildings as enrollment and program needs evolve. The board thanked school staff and said they would highlight the student mentors at future events.
