Francestown trustees plan signage, monument clean-up and note two spring burials

The Francestown Cemetery Board discussed routine operations and community-facing tasks at its March 17, 2026 meeting, including signage for renamed cemeteries, volunteer monument clean-up plans and upcoming interments.
Trustees agreed to attend the New Hampshire Cemetery Association semi-annual meeting on April 7 (Catharine Roehrig, Ellien Laramee-Byers and Marilyn Vencel will attend; Marilyn will become a member). The board noted that Cemetery #1 will be known as Old Meeting House Cemetery, Cemetery #2 as Mill Village Cemetery and Cemetery #3 as Turnpike Cemetery; members will survey other towns’ cemetery signage over the next month and bring photos and ideas to the April meeting.
For grounds and monument maintenance, Catharine Roehrig and Jan Hicks reported attending a cleaning demonstration in Deering and obtaining cleaning solution and some supplies; depending on weather they plan an initial clean-up session in late April (Catharine to select monuments; Ellien to organize equipment) and—based on the spring experience—will organize a public clean-up day later in the year with Ellien coordinating. The board recorded two burials planned for spring (one in June and one in July) and said parties will contact sexton Daniel Keaveny to arrange them. Trustees also agreed that updates on the shed and a tree evaluation will wait until the ground thaws.
