Mayor (speaker 1) read a letter dated Oct. 4 from a resident (signed Evan/Jason) complaining that a flag displayed on a corner property near Starview Park bore obscene language and exposed children to vulgar words. The letter said the flag read "f..k biden" and urged the town to have its attorney review other communities’ ordinances and consider adopting a standard to regulate obscene public displays.
The mayor noted police chief Romberg had told the resident there were no obscenity ordinances on the town books that would allow immediate removal. Council members cautioned that defining what is "PG" or obscene can be subjective and that freedom‑of‑speech considerations will be central to any legal evaluation. One council member recommended further research and suggested placing the matter on a future work session agenda for more discussion.
No ordinance or enforcement action was taken at the meeting; the council asked staff to research other municipal ordinances and legal constraints for discussion in a follow‑up session.
