The council reviewed a proposed salary ordinance to reestablish a licensed operator title for the wastewater treatment plant and to make it a funded, full-time staff position. "The state has come back and said that for a sewer, wastewater facility of our size, it should not be a part time position," the town manager said. The administration advertised the position with a salary range of $100,000 to $130,000 and reported there are qualified candidates; hiring is expected to overlap with the current consultant during a transition period, reducing consultant hours over time.
Council members asked whether hiring the position would reduce consultant costs; the manager replied that a transition is planned and the role is funded in the current budget. The ordinance will be introduced as part of the salary ordinance process and hiring will proceed once the title is reestablished.
