The Hamilton School Board approved creation of a new student-transportation driver position description and authorized hiring of 2.5 full-time-equivalent student transportation driver positions for the 2025-26 school year.
Personnel committee members said the change—including use of a district-owned van and in-house drivers rather than adding a bus route—could produce an estimated $72,000 in savings compared with adding another full bus, and would help the district recruit drivers for fall service. The board voted to approve both the position description and the hires.
The board also approved preliminary notices of nonrenewal for several staff members (listed in the packet) and accepted resignations and retirements as presented; administrators said notices would be hand-delivered and that circumstances could change prior to the second notices in May. The board authorized appointments for several positions to ensure coverage, and approved additional seasonal clerical support for May through August.
During discussion board members emphasized the need to track where savings will appear on multi-year financial reports and requested clearer roll-up and drill-down detail to understand long-term impacts on levy and fund balances. Administrators said planned staffing and vehicle choices are expected to generate operating savings that will be tracked and reported back to the board.
