Corona Municipal Schools board rescinds prior policies and adopts model policy manual

The Corona Municipal Schools board voted to rescind all existing district policies effective June 30, 2025, and adopt a new policy manual developed with consulting assistance from the New Mexico School Boards Association, effective July 1, 2025.

Chair (Speaker 3) opened the motion to rescind the district's current and past policies and then moved to adopt the new manual. Chair: "I need a motion to rescind and nullify our current policy." After a second, the board conducted a roll-call-style affirmation and the measures carried.

Board staff told members the newly adopted manual will be accompanied by monthly policy updates from the association for the board to review. Staff (Administrator, Speaker 1) said legal review will be used for any language changes to reduce exposure to litigation and asked the board to direct any specific areas that need immediate review before the July work session.

The board also approved an Open Meetings Act resolution prepared using an attorney template; staff said the resolution must be published in the newspaper and posted on the district website within 30 days, effective July 1. The board reviewed and corrected the regular meeting calendar for the 2025'26 school year (one date corrected to March 11, 2026).

What happens next: staff will forward the policy materials and routine updates to board members, and the board signaled it will consider any recommended tweaks in the July work session or a subsequent special meeting. The manual is effective July 1 and former district policies are listed as rescinded effective June 30, 2025.
