The King and Queen County Electoral Board met Nov. 12, 2025, in the hearing room at King and Queen Court House and completed post-election business, including unanimous approval of previous meeting minutes and a review of the schedule for a possible statewide audit.
Kristy Creech, the county’s general registrar, told the board that a random drawing to select localities for the statewide risk-limiting audit (RLA) of the House of Delegates race will take place Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, with notifications to selected localities scheduled for Nov. 18–20 and the audits to be completed by Friday, Nov. 21. Creech said she will notify the Electoral Board if King and Queen County is chosen.
The board also discussed upcoming training and association events. Members reviewed the Virginia Electoral Board Association (VEBA) 51st Annual Conference, set for March 23–25, 2026, at The Omni Homestead Resort & Spa in Hot Springs, Virginia, and the VEBA "Boot Camp" training (dates and times TBA), including Feb. 1, 2026 in Milford and March 23, 2026 during the conference. Registration for the VEBA events was listed as Dec. 15, 2025–Jan. 31, 2026 via the VEBA website.
Creech reminded members of the state training requirement, saying, "Pursuant to §24.2-106 D of the Code of Virginia, each member of the Electoral Board shall attend an annual training program provided by the State Board during the first year of appointment, and the first year of any subsequent reappointment." The reminder was given in the context of scheduling and continuing education for board members.
On election results, Creech reported that total voter turnout for the Nov. 4, 2025 Virginia gubernatorial election in the county was "approximately 60 percent." She also complimented the board for "adhering to non-political and non-religious decorum in the performance of EB duties during the Tuesday, November 4, 2025 VA Gubernatorial Election."
Creech said the registrar’s office has begun early discussions with King and Queen Public Schools about preparing public service announcements to inform residents about voter rights and responsibilities. No formal materials or timelines were provided during the meeting.
Minutes of the Oct. 14, 2025 meeting were read, reviewed and unanimously approved after a date clarification related to VEBA training. The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025. The session adjourned at 1:03 p.m.; the adjournment was recorded by Secretary Martha Edwards Hart.
