The Thomasville ABC Board set a public hearing on the proposed 2025–26 budget for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 at the store and said it does not intend to open on Sundays even if the North Carolina Legislature authorizes Sunday alcohol sales. The hearing will be followed by the regular June meeting at 1:15 p.m., according to motions recorded in the May 20 minutes.
Store General Manager Leigh Ann Lowe recommended the board decline future membership in the North Carolina League of Municipalities, saying the organization will no longer offer employee insurance benefits. Lowe presented the proposed 2025–26 budget as largely similar to the current year, with the primary differences appearing in payroll benefits.
Lowe told the board that planned capital expenditures include purchase of a generator and additional floor shelving to allow more product. She also reported operational trends: April store sales were down 2.91% compared with April 2024 while statewide sales rose 1.28%, and Lowe said younger customers are trending toward gummy products rather than traditional alcohol.
The board recorded the schedule for the public hearing and the regular June meeting by motion (Motion: Grimes; Second: Plyler; outcome: unanimous). The meeting was adjourned until the public hearing date.
