Hillsborough conservation commission approves volunteer, reviews mapping, signs and work-day plans

At its May 27 meeting at Hillsborough Town Hall, the Hillsborough Conservation Commission accepted a volunteer and reviewed several operational items including mapping, signage and an upcoming work day.
Member Jim Riddle reported that Shawna is finishing the individual trail maps and will then produce a townwide map; he provided printing cost estimates of $62 for 100 copies or $290 for 500 copies, with additional fees for folding and setup. The commission also discussed potential signage including placing a sign on a kiosk at the confluence property.
Riddle introduced Jack Blevins, a University of New Hampshire student who needs 100 hours of work or volunteering for college credit. Riddle proposed that Blevins serve as a Conservation Trail Monitor — hiking the newly mapped trails, taking photos, testing routes and writing short articles — with Riddle supervising. Chair Richard Head said he would check with Laura Buono about any town requirements. Member Jim Riddle moved to accept Blevins as a volunteer pending any further approvals; Linda White seconded and the motion passed 6-0.
The commission reviewed correspondence noting an NHPDIP (NH Public Deposit Investment Pool) account balance of $243,220.90 and receipt of the NH Lakes quarterly publication. Riddle also reported an inquiry from Suzanne Green of Antioch about possible intern opportunities; the commission decided it could not accommodate additional interns at this time and Riddle will reply to decline.
The commission approved the May 13, 2025 minutes as amended on a 5-0-1 vote (Terry Yeaton abstained), confirmed the work day for 10:00 a.m. on June 1 at the Shedd Brook Conservation Area (Beard Rd., M 8, L 106), and adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
