Wold Engineering reports street work progress; resident warns paving has damaged boulevard trees

Jessica Tagastad and Jesse Brandvold of Wold Engineering updated the council on local infrastructure projects, saying the 2024 Street Project is progressing well. Tagastad reported that concrete work is nearly finished on 2nd St. E. and that Kersten Street has been cleared and base stabilization will begin before concrete crews return.
Resident Kenny Fix told the council that the street paving work on Kersten Street damaged the roots of several boulevard trees and expressed concern that the trees — many of them ash — may be removed or die. Council President Seykora said she would coordinate with Wold Engineering and Shade Tree representatives to explore measures to preserve as many trees as possible.
Wold Engineering also reported that the city received the final bill from Kemper Construction for the 2023 Water Line Project. No contract disputes were reported at the meeting. The council did not take formal action on tree mitigation at the Aug. 5 meeting and asked staff and engineers to follow up before the next meeting.
