Wolverine Lake — The council voted July 8 to increase the village’s contribution to the 2027 fireworks contract held with GenEx Paratechnics to $17,500.
The contract for the display is $35,000; historically the split has been $15,000 from the village and $20,000 from the nonprofit On and Up (Onwards and Upwards). Council discussion noted On and Up has already contributed $17,500 toward the event and the village had discussed raising its share this budget year.
“We had discussed at our work session for the budget of increasing the village's contribution,” a council member said. The motion to raise the village contribution to $17,500 was seconded and approved by roll call.
Council members also discussed timing of payment. One council member asked whether the village should pay sooner to avoid potential price increases; staff said the additional payment fits within the budget number and that the check can be cut in the next check run.
The council also emphasized the importance of continuing to solicit donations and publicize the split of financial responsibility so residents understand the event relies on both village funds and community donations. No changes to the fireworks vendor were proposed at the meeting.
