Board hears request to buy $94,756 in school radios, surplus older vehicles and renew Coastal Plains agreement

Separately, staff presented the Coastal Plains Collaborative operating agreement for annual renewal. The presenter said new state legislative language (a House bill referenced during the meeting; the number was not recalled) now requires districts to either partner with a completion school such as Coastal Plains or create their own program; the revised agreement also clarifies financial terms for facility use and requires the district to publicize the completion-school option in high schools.
Board members asked about reception issues for radios in some school buildings and about where Coastal Plains uses facilities and their student counts; staff said some locations may rely on Wi‑Fi reception or access points and that Coastal Plains reports its own FTE to the state but the district can request enrollment figures. The board approved surplus and procurement items as part of routine business and renewed the operating agreement as presented.
The board did not indicate any separate funding beyond the noted safety grant for radios and will proceed with the surplus process and the renewed agreement.
