Cimarron council approves $43,000 for Jefferson paving, awards $32,625 in lodgers tax and rejects water-plant change order

The Village of Cimarron council on Aug. 19 voted unanimously to allocate the remaining $43,000 from a street project to add pavement on North Jefferson, approved FY25 lodgers-tax awards for chamber operations and events, and rejected a contractor change order for work at the water plant.
Mayor Eloy Brazil and the five-member governing body met Monday; Councilor Colin Tawney moved the Jefferson Street funding motion and Councilor Ernie LeDoux seconded. Administrator Shawn Jeffrey told the council there was $43,000 left in the project budget and asked whether the village wanted additional pavement on North Jefferson. The motion to spend the funds carried 4-0.
The council also approved a two-year lease agreement with the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs for the library with no changes. Councilor Ernie LeDoux moved to approve the lease; Councilor Miriah LeDoux seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
On lodging revenue, Councilor Colin Tawney moved to award $32,625 in FY25 lodgers tax to the Cimarron Chamber for chamber and visitor-center operations and an additional $2,000 for annual events as budget allows. Councilor Miriah LeDoux seconded; the motion passed 4-0.
A contested contractual item concerned Anchorbuilt, the contractor on the village water-plant work. Administrator Shawn Jeffrey said Anchorbuilt proposed a change order to remove coating, painting and equipment removal from the original contract because the firm had been unable to secure a painter. Council members said the coating and equipment removal were part of the original scope and important because the clarifier will be used for settling water once recycling is implemented. Mayor Pro Tem Valorie Garcia moved to disapprove the change order; Councilor Ernie LeDoux seconded and the council rejected the contractor’s proposed deduction 4-0.
