Atlantic Beach will require paid parking for all golf carts and low-speed vehicles this season, and the council approved program parameters including free passes for property owners and a higher annual fee.
Council agreed to provide property owners two free parking passes and to raise the annual parking pass fee from $100 to $200. Parking hours were set for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The council discussed charging higher rates for premium 'star' spaces closer to the beach or setting a $25 all-day maximum, but elected to launch the program as currently described and evaluate pricing adjustments next year.
Town staff will implement the program this year, set enforcement procedures and return with details on premium spaces and revenue projections if council wants to pursue tiered pricing later.
The decision was recorded as council consensus rather than a roll-call vote in the minutes.
