The Martin Board of Education unanimously elected its officers and approved several routine administrative measures during a Jan. 12 regular meeting at the district administration office.
Trustee T. Beilby was elected Board President after a nomination from Trustee J. Brinkhuis and a motion to close nominations from Trustee C. Oxender. Trustee V. Tuinstra was elected vice president, Trustee J. Brinkhuis was elected treasurer and Trustee C. Oxender was elected secretary; all officer elections were approved by unanimous vote of the seven trustees present.
The board also approved the consent agenda, which included approval of the Dec. 16, 2025 special meeting minutes and payment of board bills. President Beilby moved the consent agenda and the motion was supported and carried unanimously.
On personnel matters the board accepted the resignation of Middle School Baseball Coach Caleb Hunderman for the 2025โ26 school year. President Beilby moved the personnel recommendation and Trustee J. Thompson supported the motion; the board approved the recommendation unanimously.
The board approved the administration's recommended Emergency Operations Plan and a separate motion aligning the district's mileage reimbursement rate with the current IRS mileage rate. Both motions were moved by President Beilby, supported by Trustee C. Oxender, and carried by unanimous vote.
Superintendent Samantha Ball opened the meeting and provided bond-project updates prior to the votes. Principal Becca Lynema told the board that the bond-funded new cafeteria is complete and is now in use, and that winter NWEA assessments and semester exams are underway. "School resumed successfully following Winter Break," Lynema said.
The trustees voted to enter a closed session at 6:49 p.m. to discuss negotiations under the Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.268, Section 8(b)); the board returned to open session at 7:52 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
Next steps: the district will distribute a strategic-plan survey to staff and community members as part of the Strategic Plan update process, and the administration will continue work on bond projects and routine operational matters.
