The Algona City Council approved a resolution on July 5 to allow a property-owner-initiated assessment to pay for correcting an improper footing drain at 1710 East Maple Street.
City staff explained this is a voluntary request by the property owner to assess their share of the correction costs; the petition waiver lets the city proceed without the full public-notice sequence triggered by staff-initiated assessments. If assessed, the owner’s share would be collected the same way as property taxes over a five-year term at 5% interest.
Council moved and seconded the action and approved it by roll call. Staff indicated the city will track labor and supplies and may use contract retainage if warranty work is required to finish planting or related obligations.
