County staff presents resolution to allow sheriff's office to accept card-based bond payments

County staff presented a draft resolution to authorize a bank account for the sheriff's office that would allow the office to accept bond payments coming through the state's AllPaid system, which accepts credit-card transactions.

Dobry explained the change is driven by state requirements that bond payments be accepted through the AllPaid system rather than only cash. "The state is now requiring that bond payments be accepted through, it's called the all paid system, but they're accepting requiring credit card payments, not just cash payments," Dobry said. The proposed resolution would allow the sheriff's office to receive funds from the AllPaid system and then write checks to the courts. The resolution as presented included limits on authorized uses of the account and explicit audit and documentation requirements so county finance could obtain statements and supporting documentation as needed.

Dobry said Kendall would oversee the account in the sheriff's office and that county finance would provide oversight authority, and he described the resolution as modeled on a prior petty-cash resolution. The item was presented for the board's authorization; the transcript does not record a formal board vote on this resolution during the workshop.
