Lake Barcroft operations update: storm cleanup, lifeguard stand replacement and bathymetry ahead of fall dredging

Tim Cogswell, LBWID operations director, told trustees on June 24 that summer-season lake and beach cleanup is underway and that staff have been handling individual service requests from residents.

Cogswell said debris from the June 22 storm was largely removed, with most drift concentrating along the Tripps Run side of Lake Barcroft. He reported staff repaired an old grill for spare use and built a new lifeguard stand at Beach 4 after the prior stand could not be fixed. Grounds maintenance continues at the Community Garden and the Potterton property.

Equipment maintenance updates included a 15-horsepower LBWID outboard motor still awaiting back-ordered parts, cleaning and inspection of the dam catwalk, removal of fallen trees with a tree contractor, and replacement/monitoring of desiccant (pressure sensor) filters on lake-level sensor #1; staff noted sensor #2 may shortly need replacement. Cogswell also said outdoor Wi‑Fi extenders/access points were installed and are functioning.

Staff are scheduling the annual bathymetry survey and mapping to prepare for fall dredging; Cogswell said the Potterton debris diverter will need cleaning within about a month. The board reviewed the FY‑2026 July–May income and expense statement and identified no unanticipated variances.

Ending: The district will proceed with planned maintenance tasks and scheduling; staff will return to the trustees with updates on parts availability, sensor replacements, bathymetry results, and dredging plans.
