The Corona Municipal Schools Board moved through several administrative items after a lengthy public-comment period, approving minutes and payroll and discussing year-end budget transfers and facility plans.
Why it matters: The district is closing its fiscal year and needs to fix function-level deficits, manage a large records digitization project, and advance teacher housing work that depends on PSFA approvals — actions that have budget and compliance implications for the coming year.
Minutes, payroll and 'bars'
The board approved April minutes and moved payroll and bills. Finance staff described transition-related catch-up payments and requested a blanket approval for transfer 'bars' to correct negative function balances before fiscal year close; the board authorized the approach and asked that Vicky (finance lead) approve individual transfers and report back in June.
Records management
Administration described a records-management contract to scan and index student, personnel and financial records, with off-site short-term storage and phased work. The district noted the project will include an initial one-time fee and then an ongoing records-management/storage service; some older paper boxes will be destroyed according to retention rules after scanning.
Demolition, housing and property purchase
Superintendent-level staff said PSFA-required asbestos testing had been completed and a demolition bid for teacher housing came in at $7,000; demolition and foundation/retention work were described as on a June–July timeline subject to soil samples and PSFA approvals. The board discussed a possible purchase of a nearby property for teacher/administrator housing — two appraised figures were referenced ($2.35M appraised value versus $2.65M book/asking value) — and after discussion approved a motion to proceed with the purchase process.
Policy readings and handbooks
Board members completed second readings of policy sections and expect to adopt the full policy manual in July, after which student and staff handbooks will be updated and posted online following attorney review.
Representative quotes
"We'll actually probably have an answer for that next week when we do the budget presentation," a finance staff member said when asked about transfer details.
"We got a bid of $7,000 in our investment, for demolition," administration said about the teacher housing demolition quotes.
Ending
The board asked administration to return with concrete vendor and contract information at the next meeting, and directed finance staff to implement the approved interim transfers and report the results at the June meeting.
