IT report: township switched phones to T‑Mobile, estimating about $20,000 in savings; server part to be replaced after storm

Cheltenham’s IT lead reported at the July 8 finance committee meeting that the township moved most cellular devices off AT&T FirstNet onto T‑Mobile, and that the change is expected to yield roughly $20,000 in combined savings from device buybacks and lower monthly costs.
"That, comes with an approximate $20,000 savings to the township," said the IT staff member. He said about 40 devices have been switched so far and only a handful remain to be migrated; the transition includes device buybacks and activation fees that were factored into the estimate.
The IT staff member also reported that a storm caused the township building generator to fail to start, which in turn caused some damage to the township server. He said data remain secure but a small server part must be replaced; the part has been ordered and staff are working on preventative maintenance planning for the generator.
The committee did not take formal action on the IT report; the chair included the verbal IT update in the routine approvals the committee voted on by voice.
