District staff highlight summer facilities fixes, new STEAM and device rollouts

The Long Hill Township Board of Education heard comprehensive updates Sept. 9 on capital and technology projects completed over the summer.
Facilities overview: facilities manager Mark Mandersky told the board the district completed exterior painting at Central School, pressure‑washing of the gym, ceiling and power upgrades in classrooms, replacement of two classroom ventilators, a fire panel upgrade at Gillette and new rooftop units (RTUs). He also described the Millington library renovation and the conversion of storage to kitchen support spaces to meet the new lunch program’s equipment needs. Mandersky noted some finishing work remains, including mobile furniture arrivals for the new STEAM room.
Technology upgrades: Tom (technology committee chair) reported the district launched a new website, deployed 16 new desktop computers at Gillette and Central Middle School, rolled out 100 new iPads at Gillette (in five carts of 20), placed 15 iPads in the Central Middle School STEAM lab and procured 170 Chromebooks for grades 5–8 with improved cases and screen protectors. The tech team expects to reach near 1:1 in Gillette by 2025 and credited staff for accelerating a multi‑year replacement program into a single summer.
Why it matters: the combined facilities and technology work addresses safety, air quality, instructional space modernization (STEAM), and classroom device access. The board discussed remaining furniture deliveries and minor finishing tasks before full use by students.
Next steps: administrators will post before/after photos on the district website when furniture arrives and continue to monitor HVAC and fire system performance; the technology team will train staff on the new website and manage device deployment into classrooms.
