Hammonton Board introduces tentative 2026 budget and approves routine personnel and program items

The Hammonton Board of Education on March 19 introduced its tentative 2026 budget and approved several routine agenda items, voting to send the budget to the county office for a technical review before a final adoption meeting in about 30 days.

During the special meeting the chair said the introduction vote is a preliminary step: the county office will perform technical review and the board can amend the budget before final adoption, scheduled "in roughly 30 days." The chair reiterated that the introduction does not lock the board into a final number.

Board members approved multiple consent items by roll call earlier in the meeting. The board moved and passed finance items 2 and 3 (motion carried after roll call), approved personnel item number 4, and approved program and student items 5 and 6. On the addendum the board acted on finance item 7 and then completed the roll call and the introduction of the tentative budget; the chair announced the motion carried.

The board's vote on the budget introduces the package to the county office for technical review under New Jersey procedure; after the county returns its findings the board will have the opportunity to amend the proposal and hold a final adoption vote. No members of the public spoke during either public-comment opportunity at the meeting.

What happens next: the district will receive the county's technical review, board members said staff will make available one-on-one appointments for residents seeking clarification, and the board expects a final-budget adoption vote at a later public meeting.
