Public Works staff report repairs to McKnight crosswalk, lighting and shifted sewer timelines

Dan, Public Works staff, told the committee the McKnight Road crosswalk modem was replaced and the system is functioning: “I believe it's set at 25 seconds. It's got the passive buttons… if you break the radar beam, it'll trigger the lights.” He said staff is monitoring crossings and has observed peak use around 7–8 a.m.
Dan described ongoing repairs to lighting on Manchester Road, saying a damaged stainless-steel cabinet is being rebuilt and should arrive in June so contractors can restore service to about six lights. He noted four lights near a storage building were already repaired, and two other damaged pedestals in the city are awaiting electricians.
On sewer projects, Dan reported that the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) pushed the Hampton Creek relief schedule from an August–September 2026 start to a projected early 2027 start. “They're actually pushing it back… it's looking like early '27,” he said, adding that the delay reduces near-term disruption.
Dan also reviewed work at a temporary north‑side parking lot on Manchester Road: staff graded portions of the lot, plan to remove gravel in places and add sod, and will test a liquid spray dust-control product that dries more quickly than a granular binder. He told the committee he would post demonstration material and monitor results.
Committee members asked for follow-up on a tree that fell on Salem and severed wiring feeding three streetlights. Dan said Ameren had been contacted, crews have cut and made a temporary fix to clear the roadway, and he will report back about permanent repairs.
The committee discussed several items Dan raised — including a proposed mechanically-stabilized block (VersaLock) retaining wall for a Manderley property and solar lighting options for small courts — and asked staff to return in July with pricing and recommended fixtures. No final procurement decisions were made at the committee level.
