St. Charles council approves agenda and consent items, hears department reports and a public alley tree concern

The St. Charles City Council convened on June 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. and approved the evening’s agenda and a consent package that included May 11 meeting minutes, the May 2026 treasurer’s report, the June claims and receipts report, a tobacco license for Casey’s and a liquor license for Tiger Lily Café. Motions to approve the agenda and the consent agenda were passed with the rolls recorded as “Ayes – unanimous.”
The sheriff’s and emergency management report was submitted; it recorded 42.08 patrol hours, 15 traffic stops and 9 calls during April. During public forum, Council Member Megan Allison reported an issue with a tree in the city alleyway behind Main Street; the minutes record the report but do not record a directive or resolution addressing the tree.
Department reports noted that the sewer report listed no issues; Fire/Rescue reported purchase of a new ram for extraction equipment; library minutes were submitted; Gateway reported volunteers are needed on Fridays through Sundays and that pigeons remain an issue; Old Settlers organizers submitted a schedule of events; Public Works was asked to inspect and repair a park merry-go-round; and the clerk provided an update on property tax reform and said City Hall will be closed July 2.
Under new business, Mayor Brian Fitch and Council Member Megan Allison will meet with representatives from Hinterland to discuss the use of N Cross; the minutes do not record dates or terms for that meeting. In council comments, the council agreed that front decks on homes will be approved on a case-by-case basis and reviewed an ordinance concerning recreational vehicles with additional changes to be made.
With no further business, Allison moved to adjourn, Kozak seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 8:09 p.m. The minutes bear the signatures of Brian Fitch, Mayor, and Tracy Kozak, Clerk/Treasurer, and note the next regular council meeting is Monday, July 13, 2026.
