Taylor council weighs street study and schedules culvert repairs

Taylor city officials on March 9 reviewed a proposed street study, directed follow-up on culvert repairs and discussed other maintenance matters including a resident septic installation and an expired burning permit.
The council reviewed an estimate from Moore Engineering and Braun Intertec that a street study including condition mapping and geotechnical analysis would cost roughly $15,000 to $20,000. No engineering agreement was signed at the meeting; the council asked staff to return with formal bids or an agreement if needed.
Councilman Mark Sloop reported maintenance tasks including replacing four bulbs on The Opera House sign and said the computer used for maintenance reports is malfunctioning and may need repair or replacement. He also noted a resident plans to install a septic tank system and the council will consult DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) guidelines.
The council agreed the city’s culverts are due for repair and directed Councilman Sloop to solicit quotes for the work. Councilman Sloop also advised the city needs to reapply for a burning permit because the previous permit has expired.
No formal funding motion for the street study was approved during the meeting; the council’s instructions were for staff to return with additional information and cost proposals.
