Palmyra superintendent reports DNR inspection success, waterline work and fleet and equipment updates

Superintendent Brent Abell told the board Nov. 6 that a DNR pretreatment inspection was satisfactory, waterline replacement to Maple Lawn Nursing Home is underway with two valves installed, the vac truck is being repaired (about three weeks out), and Four Point Surveying delivered Greystone Haven South subdivision plans to the city engineer.
Superintendent Brent Abell reported multiple operational updates to the Palmyra Board of Public Works at the Nov. 6 meeting.
Abell said the Department of Natural Resources’ pretreatment inspection at the Leeser Truck Wash "went well" and that DNR was satisfied with the results; the next step will be for DNR to inspect the city’s pretreatment program process. He said the water-line replacement from South Spring to Maple Lawn Nursing Home is in progress, mapping is being updated, and two valves have been installed to allow the old line to be shut down when the new line is finished.
On equipment and fleet, Abell reported the vac truck remains out of service while the fuel pump is being rebuilt and expressed hope the truck would return to service within about three weeks. He also said the electrical crew had replaced 11 poles to date and continued right-of-way clearing. New iPads have been distributed to staff with the goal of implementing ongoing electronic work orders across departments.
On development planning, Abell said Four Point Surveying provided a full set of subdivision plans for Greystone Haven South, which have been delivered to City Engineer Mark Bross for review and comment. Abell also updated the board on personnel training: A.J. O’Brien will pursue a commercial driver’s license and Sean Kindhart is attending a course for a distribution license. Finally, Abell noted a union petition vote will be held electronically on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7.
The board took no further recorded action on these operational items at the meeting; the next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 19.
