Board approves Motorola GIS service renewal, fiber project amendment and janitorial contract amendment after debate

At its July 6 meeting the Mohave County Board of Supervisors approved several procurement and contract items after questions and discussion from board members and the public.
Motorola GIS/911 subscription: The board approved a five‑year subscription/service agreement with Motorola Solutions (total five‑year commitment $154,938.60) to continue GIS updates, address and road centerline maintenance used by 911 and records management. Public commenter Chuck DeShazer questioned the need for the expenditure; the sheriff’s office and county staff explained the service updates address points and 911 mapping and have been budgeted historically.
Kingman fiber contract: The board approved Amendment No. 2 to contract 2026128‑CTR (Walker Service Electric) authorizing replacement of damaged fiber as essential work and increasing the contract by $17,034.20 for a revised contract total of $129,952.87. Staff explained the prime contractor went bankrupt and the county is finishing the project with an existing subcontractor.
Janitorial contract amendment: The board considered Amendment No. 7 to contract 24‑PD‑03 (Newbie Services LLC/Bruce Goose Janitorial) to permit billing at set hourly tiers for emergency or nonroutine cleanups (15 minutes $25, 30 minutes $50, 45 minutes $75, 60 minutes $100). Supervisor Gould questioned the $100 hourly rate and sought separation of onsite additional work rates from special incident call‑out rates. A first motion to send the amendment back for further negotiation passed, but after additional discussion the board ultimately approved the amendment as presented.
What happens next: Staff will finalize contract documents and proceed with implementation under the authorized amendments; the Motorola and fiber agreements will move forward as approved, and janitorial vendor billing will follow the newly authorized call‑out fee schedule.
