The Kenowa Hills Public Schools Board of Education approved a consent agenda on Aug. 14 that included minutes, personnel reports and multiple fund expenditures, while district leaders reported a positive staffing outlook and reviewed next year’s professional development plans.
Member LaBotz moved to approve the consent agenda; Member Courtade supported the motion and the board voted 7-0 to adopt it. The consent items listed in the minutes included July 25 and July 31 meeting minutes, the certified staff personnel report, and detailed fund expenditures: June 2023 General Fund expenditures of $870,899.81 and July 2023 General Fund expenditures of $881,335.49, among other fund checks noted in the minutes. The consent agenda also included an MHSAA boys ice hockey cooperative team application.
During the Superintendent’s Report, Superintendent Hopkins said the district is in a positive position regarding certified staffing as the school year begins. Separately, the Office of Teaching and Learning reviewed the District Provided Professional Development schedule for 2023–24; that schedule includes CKH training for new instructional staff, LETRS training for K–3 and restorative-practices training for middle school staff. Board members requested a future update on the Freshman Academy.
The finance section of the agenda included review of June and July check registers and a bond investment fund summary (interest income and an investment summary). Staff also noted potential positive changes to state revenue that could affect the FY2024 budget outlook.
The board set future meeting dates (Aug. 28; Sept. 11 Committee of the Whole; Sept. 25 at Zinser Elementary) and adjourned at 9:02 p.m. No member of the public spoke during the public-comment period.
