The Student Handbook updates for the 2025–26 school year were provided as a first reading for board review. Administrators also presented a slate of proposed policy changes and rescissions (first reading) including: Bylaw 0.131.1 (Bylaws and Policies, revision); Policy 2264 (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities, rescind); Policy 2266 (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities, revision); Policy 2340 (Field and Other District-Sponsored Trips, revision); Policy 5320 (Immunization, revision); Policy 5330 (Use of Medications, revision); Policy 5330.01 (Epinephrine Auto-Injectors, revision); Policy 5350 (Student Health, Well-Being, and Suicide Prevention, revision); Policy 5460 (Graduation Requirements, revision); Policy 8320 (Personnel Files, revision); and Policy 8640 (Transportation for Field and Other District-Sponsored Trips, rescind).
The items were listed as first readings only; the minutes show they were provided for board consideration and review rather than final action. The board did not record motions or votes on these policy items at the workshop. The board also noted that two incumbents are running unopposed for two open Kent ISD Board seats as an informational item.
If the board moves any of these policies forward, they would appear again on a future agenda for second reading or adoption with any accompanying edits or fiscal impacts spelled out.
