Labette County commissioners approve bond amounts, appointments, annexation and routine contracts

The Labette County Board of Commissioners met Jan. 27, 2025, in the commission room and approved a series of routine administrative actions, including setting bond amounts for elected offices, authorizing a county representative for regional homeland security and consenting to a voluntary annexation in Altamont.
Commissioners Vincent B. Schibi (chairman), Tom Barrett and Terry Weidert unanimously approved motions to set bond amounts per KCAMP recommendations: County Clerk and County Treasurer bonds at $100,000 each, the County Sheriff bond at $40,000 and the County Attorney bond at $25,000. Commissioner Terry Weidert moved and Tom Barrett seconded approval of the Jan. 21, 2025 minutes and the motion passed unanimously.
The board authorized payment of Southeast Kansas Regional Planning Commission dues of $5,427.60 for 2025 and approved appointing Sheriff Darren Eichinger as Labette County’s regional homeland security representative by authorizing the commission signatures on an appointment letter. Chairman Schibi moved and commissioners approved Resolution No. 2025-10-A appointing Commissioner Tom Barrett as the commission's ex‑officio representative to the Great Plains Industrial Board.
During the session the board agreed to allow the voluntary annexation of 1005 S. Huston, Altamont, Kansas, under ordinance No. 660. The commissioners also authorized a one‑year service contract with McCarty's Office Machines, Inc. covering two Canon IR‑ADV C5535i multifunction copiers (service and supplies for Jan. 15, 2025–Jan. 15, 2026), and approved Public Works delivering two loads of rock to Mound Valley Cemetery.
The board scheduled the 2025 Board of Health meeting for March 24, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Health Department. Commissioners held multiple brief executive sessions for non‑elected personnel and a separate attorney‑client executive session; no substantive decisions from those closed sessions were reported in the public record. The meeting adjourned at 12:20 p.m., with the next regular session set for 9:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025.
