Labette County commissioners approve minutes, payments and fund $55,329 to Labette Health

Labette County commissioners on Feb. 10 unanimously approved routine minutes and multiple payment batches, allocated $55,329 in Katy Hospital proceeds to Labette County Medical Center (dba Labette Health) and approved limited county-staff assistance for a Mound Valley street repair project.
Chairman Vincent B. Schibi called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m. and the board first approved the minutes of Jan. 31, 2025 after a motion from Commissioner Terry Weidert and a second from Commissioner Tom Barrett. The vote was 3-0 in favor.
Commissioners then approved two accounts-payable motions. Chairman Schibi moved to approve Accounts Payable check numbers 36632 through 36636 totaling $16,374.75; the motion passed unanimously. Later, Schibi moved to approve check number 36631 and check numbers 36637 through 36731 totaling $291,046.36; Commissioner Tom Barrett seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
On a separate motion, Commissioner Weidert moved to give $55,329.00 in Katy Hospital proceeds to Labette County Medical Center (dba Labette Health) and asked that Labette Health consider directing a portion to rural fire departments; Chairman Schibi seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Also on the consent/decision side of the agenda, Commissioners voted to allow Public Works employees to work on a chip-and-seal project for the City of Mound Valley on the condition that the city hire the workers, schedule the work after normal hours and assume responsibility for fuel, equipment maintenance and workers' compensation. The motion was made by Commissioner Weidert, seconded by Commissioner Barrett, and carried 3-0.
The board recessed briefly and later entered an attorney-client executive session by unanimous vote; County Counselor Brian K. Johnson attended that session for a specified ten-minute period. The meeting adjourned at 12:12 p.m. and is set to reconvene at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025.
