Tecumseh council approves park-court work, pays contractor and clears multiple land actions

At its July 7 meeting the Tecumseh City Council approved a $43,100 parks courts quote, a $703,869.91 pay application for the power plant project, an economic development lot transfer and sale to Chanco Properties, and a lot split for the Benjamin E. Walters Estate; one ordinance review was tabled because five members were required to vote.
The Tecumseh City Council approved several motions and routine items during its July 7, 2025, regular meeting, voting unanimously among members present on each item.
Parks: The council approved a $43,100 quote from Pro Track & Tennis to improve tennis and basketball courts at the city park. Councilmember Lorie Topp moved to approve the quote; Brian Britt seconded. Councilmembers Lance Beethe, Brian Britt, Tyler Speckmann and Lorie Topp voted to approve. The council also formed a wage committee and appointed Councilmembers Brian Britt and Lorie Topp as the city representatives to that committee.
Power plant contractor payment: The council approved Pay Application No. 3 from Farabee Mechanical for the power plant project in the amount of $703,869.91. The motion was made by Lorie Topp and seconded by Tyler Speckmann and passed with the four members present voting aye.
Economic development and land actions: The council approved an agreement to transfer an economic development lot and approved a contract for sale by the Economic Development authority to Chanco Properties, LLC. The council also approved an application and resolution for a lot split submitted by Rachel Walters as PR for the Benjamin E. Walters Estate. All actions carried on 4-0 votes with two council members absent.
Ordinance review tabled: The council reviewed a proposed ordinance that would amend Tecumseh Municipal Code sections to add definitions and rules for design-build and construction management contracts, renumber existing sections, add a definition for animal bites and attacks, and amend hours for alcohol sales. Final action was tabled because the ordinance requires five members to vote and only four were present.
Consent agenda and adjournment: The council approved the consent agenda, including minutes of the June 16, 2025 meeting and payment of city bills, and adjourned at 5:34 p.m.
