At its Sept. 2 meeting, the Tecumseh City Council approved key fiscal measures for the 2025-26 fiscal year, including final passage of the city's annual appropriation ordinance and adjustments to the restricted funds base used in property tax calculations.
Councilmembers voted to increase the Restricted Funds Base in the 2025-2026 budget by 1% over the allowable growth percent. The motion to approve that adjustment was made by Councilmember Tyler Speckmann and seconded by Travis Goracke; the vote was unanimous among members present (Alicia Brommer absent).
The council also introduced and then approved an ordinance adopting the annual appropriation (the budget statement). The council voted to waive the statutory requirement that an ordinance be read by title on three different days and then approved final passage of the ordinance; the minutes note the ordinance will be published in pamphlet form.
Separately, councilmembers approved a resolution setting the 2025-2026 property tax request at an amount different from the prior year. The minutes record the motion to introduce and approve that resolution (moved by Lance Beethe, seconded by Brian Britt) but do not include the dollar amount of the tax request.
The actions taken set the city's formal appropriation and tax-request posture for the coming year; staff will complete the procedural filings required by state law.
