Select Board asks staff to price cell phones for town sites, hears crosswalk complaint on Route 2

Administrative Assistant Amanda Simino told the board that there are no landlines at the transfer station or the highway garage and that she is using personal phones to contact town employees; she said she needs dedicated town phones to keep work communications on business lines. Simino asked the Select Board to authorize researching the purchase of one phone for the transfer station, two phones for the highway department and one for the office, and to evaluate a business plan for a municipal phone plan. The Select Board directed her to obtain pricing and return with a proposal at the next meeting.
On a separate matter, Simino relayed a resident complaint about the lack of a crosswalk across Route 2 at the Old Corner Store. She said the state indicated the town must request crosswalk approval and that the state historically will not approve a crosswalk at that location because the town does not have a designated Main Street; Simino noted Santa's Village previously tried and was denied. Selectman Norman Brown confirmed the state's position as described and no new state action was reported at the meeting.
The board did not vote on phone purchases or on a crosswalk request; both items were left for staff follow-up and further discussion.
