Mayor announces forthcoming coyote-management plan and upcoming public meetings

Mayor Bell used the Jan. 7 meeting to flag several upcoming public engagement opportunities and to announce council direction on wildlife management. He said the council's strategic planning meeting will be held Jan. 23–24 and the next quarterly town hall will be Jan. 29. "This will be a little bit more of a state of the town, presentation," he said, and encouraged public attendance.
On wildlife, the mayor said he had heard residents' concerns about coyotes and that the town biologist had briefed council about the animals previously. "So what I've, directed the staff to do is, come up with a and present to the council, probably at the next council meeting, a comprehensive plan with regard to coyote management," he said, adding that the town would review approaches used by other communities and check state regulations and permitting requirements. He cautioned that removing individual coyotes can cause others to move into the area.
The mayor also mentioned continued work on the ARB (architectural review board) transition with KICA and encouraged residents to attend related meetings and votes. The announcements are intended to provide opportunities for community engagement on near-term and longer-term priorities.
