Residents' helicopter-noise complaints prompt county to ask airport manager to press operator on flight paths

Chair Mike Patrick asked Clerk Hillary Vowell to draft a letter instructing the airport manager to contact My Flight, ask that the operator alter flight paths to reduce residential overflights, and require the company to submit proof of liability insurance to the clerk's office. Commissioner Austin Kimberling moved to authorize Commissioner Patrick to send the letter; Commissioner Daryl Schroeder seconded. The motion carried unanimously with Commissioner John Kling absent.
Minutes record that the county airport manager had told residents he could not take further action; the board's direction to have the airport manager speak with the operator is an administrative request rather than a regulatory enforcement action. Residents had also filed an FAA complaint, according to the minutes; the board did not record any new enforcement authority or new noise ordinance action at the meeting.
