Mackinac County commissioners approve MDHHS resolution, 2% grant and routine bills

At its Aug. 28 meeting, the Mackinac County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on several items: a resolution supporting Courtney Grant, the new MDHHS chief, opposing the state opening oversight of community mental health agencies to private corporations; authorization to post a full-time and a part-time position for the county Animal Shelter; approval of a $2,500 application for 2% funds to the Top of the Lake Snowmobile Museum from the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians; and passage of routine financial actions including regular bills of $89,087.21, additional bills of $98,393.77 and budget amendment #2025-28.
The resolution concerning community mental-health oversight was moved by Commissioner John Kling and seconded by Commissioner Daryl Schroeder; the motion passed with Kling, Patrick, Schroeder and St. Louis-Scott voting yes. The $2,500 2% fund application was moved by Commissioner Judy St. Louis-Scott and seconded by Commissioner John Kling and approved by roll call. Commissioners Schroeder and Kling moved bills approvals and the board recorded unanimous yes votes on both the regular and additional bills. The budget amendment #2025-28 was moved by Commissioner Kling and seconded by Commissioner Schroeder and approved by roll call.
No dissenting votes were recorded in the meeting minutes. The board scheduled union-negotiation meetings and named Commissioners Kling and Patrick to the negotiation team, with the first meeting set for Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 5:39 p.m.
