Oak Grove board certifies April 8 election, swears in three alderwomen

Oak Grove Mayor Dana Webb said the Board adopted an ordinance certifying the April 8 election and then administered oaths to newly elected alderwomen.

The ordinance, Bill No. 25-04, was presented by City Clerk Kim as the routine annual certification of election results for one alderman from each ward (two-year terms) and one alderman for Ward 3 (one-year term). The board moved for first and second readings by title and then adopted the ordinance; the clerk recorded affirmative responses for Sierra McMichael, Rachel Kilmer, Tracy Newcomer, Pam Pope and Melissa Johnson. Mayor Webb declared Bill 25-04 adopted as Ordinance 2131.

The ordinance adoption was followed by the swearing-in of Rachel Kilmer, Tracy Newcomer and Melissa Johnson; the mayor noted Kelly Neto was absent and her oath will be completed at a later meeting.

The board next opened nominations for mayor pro tem. A member nominated Pam Pope, saying she "is always very prepared, and you speak very eloquently" and praised her willingness to ask questions. With no further nominations, the board elected Pam Pope to a one-year term as mayor pro tem by voice vote.

Why it matters: The certification completes the formal election process and places the newly elected alderwomen into office, restoring full membership for board business and clarifying the board's leadership going forward.

Looking ahead: The clerk will file the ordinance as Ordinance No. 2131 and complete any remaining oaths for absent members at the next meeting.
