Atoka council approves REAP grant application, Safe Streets planning grant and reappoints library trustee

The Atoka City Council approved several administrative actions including a resolution authorizing application for REAP funds to purchase public works equipment, acceptance of a Safe Streets for All planning grant application, and the reappointment of Lisa Moreland to the Southern Oklahoma Library System board.

On Resolution 2026-15, council members reviewed equipment pricing: roughly $74,015.97 for a tractor and $21,053.31 for a brush hog, with the city expected to provide approximately a $5,000 local match if awarded. The resolution authorizes staff to apply for REAP (Rural Economic Action Plan) funds to assist with these upgrades. A council member noted the packet did not include an attachment but that staff had a copy available.

The council also approved moving forward with the USDOT Safe Streets for All planning grant. Members clarified this stage is planning only, covering sidewalk and lighting improvements and community mobility planning; the grant package cited an aggregate total with a $350,000 federal grant, $60,000 in-kind match and $10,000 local funds. The council said public input meetings would be held and that the University of Oklahoma would assist with the grant process.

Earlier in the meeting the council reappointed Lisa Moreland to a three-year term on the Southern Oklahoma Library System board; the motion to approve was carried by roll call.

All votes on these items were approved by roll call. Council members asked staff to bring back any required attachments or further details if the grants advance to project funding stages.
