Committee approves special assessments for Van White Memorial Boulevard resurfacing

Chair Robin Wansley opened a public hearing on the Van White Memorial Boulevard resurfacing project and invited Public Works engineer Tracy Lindgren to present the proposal.
"I am here to present the public hearing for the Van White Memorial Boulevard resurfacing project and recommend passage of resolution adopting special assessments in the amount of $70,125.60," Lindgren said. She described the scope as a mill and 2-inch asphalt overlay on a municipal state aid route with a pavement condition index of 52 and listed a total project cost of $404,440, funded by $70,125.60 in special assessments, $51,220 in levy-funded debt and $283,094 in municipal state aid.
No members of the public signed up to testify. Council Member Warren spoke in support of the project, praising recent ADA improvements and saying he would back the assessment.
Chair Wansley then moved approval of the item; the committee approved the resolution by voice vote.
The committee record includes information about preproject outreach (a virtual informational meeting held June 11 and mailed notices to property owners) and options for assessment prepayment and deferment for qualifying homeowners (age 65+, permanently and totally disabled, or active-duty military), as described by Lindgren.
The committee action advances project design and authorizes the city to proceed with the special-assessment process and bond authorization as presented.
